Low temperatures tonight are expected to drop into the low 30s, the National Weather Service says, with some scattered areas of frost.
Temperature sensitive plants will have to be covered tonight, although there is no official freeze watch.
Whether frost will develop overnight and how widespread it will be depends on how quickly the clouds clear out this late afternoon, says meteorologist John Franks.
“When you have clear skies, temperatures radiate away from the surface of the earth,” Franks said. “If you have a cloud cover, it acts like a blanket.”
While a freeze watch was expected earlier in the day, it appears that one may not be issued at all, he said.
Temperatures in the metropolitan Cincinnati area are expected hover around 36 degrees tonight. In surrounding areas, the lows range from 34 to 37 degrees.
“I’m not too concerned about frosting in the metro area but you get to some isolated and remote places with a cool drainage area, there will be patchy areas of frost,” Franks said.
A warm up is expected Wednesday, with sunny conditions and highs climbing into the mid 60s.
Thursday will also be sunny with highs in the mid 70s but rain may return late Thursday and through Saturday.
